slip and slide

by remembertoexhale

I was sitting at my desk staring out the window at the clouds, when I suddenly found myself walking out the gates of our garden. I walked and walked and walked and I tried to find you in the branches of the willow tree. I looked beneath her drooping wreath-like branches to see if I might see your equally drooping face. I waded into the water and tried to look for you in the lake but all I got were handfuls of mud and sand and a nip or two from a fish or three. I climbed to the top of the cliff at the quarry to see if you might be on top, but I slipped and slid down the side, much like the way you slipped through my fingers in droplets and dribbles, never quite being able to piece yourself completely back together again
