sorrow, but not for tomorrow

by remembertoexhale

I stayed and watched it until
the end but only because
I didn’t want to buckle and bend
I felt your sorrow,
I felt it salty, wetting my shoulder
your grip tight around me
and me around you
I stood tall
I stood tall
because I was not going to get on my knees
and crawl
and chin held high,
I looked towards the sky
and thought
maybe that was goodbye
